Hunter Valley winery experiences & wine tours
A leisurely two-hour drive north from Sydney CBD or only 40 minutes from Newcastle, the Hunter Valley is one of Australia's premier and oldest wine growing regions. Often referred to colloquially as Wine Country, there are some of Australia's leading wineries producing some of it's finest wines. With over 150 cellar doors to choose from and a large variety of different varieties and style, there's plenty to keep you occupied.
Perhaps the most famous is the Semillon, which can only be described as an Australian gift to the wine world. This truly remarkable grape has found it's spiritual home here, producing fresh and bright young wines, but once they garner a bit of age, their depth and complexity really lift, delivering lemon curd, lanolin, and toast, all framed by fine bone minerality.
The Chardonnay and Shiraz are likewise world class and a true reflection of the region and should not be overlooked. You can also find other compelling alternative whites and reds, including Verdelho, Tempranillo, Sangiovese, and Barbera, just too name a few.
The Hunter Valley really has plenty to offer the food and wine centric, with a compelling array of farm fresh local produce served up by some seriously creative chefs. Multi-award winning Margan Winery & Restaurant is leading the way with a seasonal focus on estate-grown produce from their one-acre kitchen garden.
Wrap this in some beautiful sceneries, relaxing day spas, challenging golf courses, uplifting ballooning, and the World Heritage wilderness areas of Wollemi and Barrington Tops National parks and you'll find either the most relaxing or adventurous holiday, awash with wine you could want.
