The Black & Ginger story begins with friends Hadyn Black, a winemaker from Great Western, and Darcy Naunton, an entrepreneur based in Sydney, whose friendship began in 2002. Bonding over camping, four-wheel driving, fishing and beards, they also shared a passion for the vineyards and wineries of Great Western.   Winemaker Hadyn completed his first vintage at Giants Steps Yarra Valley before moving to Galli Estate and then Best’s Wines along with two vintages in Napa Valley USA. Hadyn has worked alongside some of the most respected winemakers in Australia. Steve Flamsteed, Ben Ranken and Justin Purser have all had a big impact on his approach to making wines, they all have a different approach themselves and Hadyn has acquired different skills from all of them.     With 10 vintages under their belts, they've honed their identity as trendsetters rather than followers, pushing the Grampians region to its limits. They experiment with local and alternative grape varietals, crafting wines that break the mould.   The Feminine Touch: Hadyn and Darcy honour the influential women in their lives by naming their wines after them. Each wine reflects a story, style, myth, or quality embodied by the woman it's named after. For example, Lorelei Gewürztraminer is named after a seductive mythological figure, while L'Amante Nebbiolo, meaning 'the Lover' in Italian, exudes sensuality and Lucy’s Rosé, named after Hadyn’s wife, because she kept bugging him to make a Rosé. Lily's Block Shiraz, made with fruit from their certified organic sister vineyard, Hounds Run, pays tribute to Hadyn's late mother, Lily, who helped cultivate the grapes but never tasted the final product. In naming their wines after women, Black & Ginger Wine celebrates the remarkable women who have shaped their lives.

Hello, we're James and Claire Lance and this is Punch. James has been making wine from his family's vineyard for more than 25 years, firstly under the tutelage of his father - recognised Pinot Pioneer and Diamond Valley Vineyards founder, David Lance - and since 2005, making his own mark with Punch.   In 1975, after a two year search for their ideal vineyard site, David and Catherine Lance found a beautiful twenty acres of sloping land in the hamlet of St Andrews, Yarra Valley. The soils were poor, thin & riddled with rock. The elevation was high (250m) & the site was a natural ampitheatre, perfect for capturing sunlight without excessive heat.​ The family began planting in 1976. With David and Catherine's retirement in 2005, James & Claire Lance took on Lance’s Vineyard & Winery, and started Punch. Together they believe that this vineyard has consistently proven itself to be one of Australia’s most distinguished sites.​ Our vineyard is meticulously and sensitively cared for - using appropriate organic and holistic systems based on both science and years' experience.​ Vines are hand dressed, pruned and harvested. In the winery we use minimal interventions, harnessing natural yeasts, gravity settlings, slow elevage in barrel, and no fining or filtration.  After estate bottling, we allow all of our wines significant time in bottle, to develop closer to their peak before release. In February 2009, just a few weeks before harvest was to commence, a Black Saturday bushfire burnt though Lance's Vineyard, destroying our year's fruit. The community response to this day was remarkable in it's generosity of spirit. Our personal experience of this was quick to come, with our phone ringing almost immediately, and grape grower friends asking “how can we help?”. Our answer was simple - “please sell us some grapes!” And they did. In each case they shared with us significant portions of their scant, wonderful 2009 crop. We thank them sincerely. To honour and celebrate this help, we began a new label - Friends of Punch - incorporating a love heart as a symbol of our gratitude. As Lance's Vineyard has recovered from the fire, we have maintained Friends of Punch as the home for small parcels of beautiful fruit, grown on our friends' vineyards, made by us at our winery.  We'd love for you to try our wines, available online here, from one of our stockists, or in our new cellar door - Punch Wine Room - right in the heart of St Andrews.

The first licensed winery on the Mornington Peninsula began in 1975 when local wine making pioneers Nat and Rosalie White saw the potential of the site that would become Main Ridge Estate. Today, 40 year-old deep rooted Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines provide exceptional 100% estate grown fruit. The wine is carefully made to express the terroir of this iconic site. Visitors enjoy fine wine, simple casual lunches and views of the quiet bush valley, gardens and vineyard from the sundeck, or can sit by the fire in the original working winery. We look forward to sharing with you the good life we enjoy in our idyllic vineyard! Main Ridge Estate is an ideal site for producing high quality cool climate wines. Located at an altitude of 230 metres, the small 7 acre vineyard was planted progressively from 1975 and is one of the oldest and highest on the Mornington Peninsula. The rich volcanic soil and mature vines ensure no irrigation is required. The north-east facing vineyards slope gently, sheltered by stands of mature trees. The 5,000 vines are approximately 50% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay with a small number of Pinot Meunier and Merlot vines. Wine has always been made exclusively from Estate grown fruit.

Ten Minutes by Tractor is the convergence of wine journeys that began almost 40 years ago, a group of individuals and vineyards that fortuitously came together over time to create the winery that exists today. Our winery started in 1997 with three family owned vineyards in Main Ridge, all ten minutes by tractor apart. Since then we have added new vineyards, but all have their own unique character with different aspects, slopes, soils, altitude and winds which flow through the valleys up from Bass Strait. Eldridge Estate is located just over an hour from Melbourne via the freeway on the Mornington Peninsula. The area is full of beach and holiday towns, golf courses, horse riding, nature reserves and wineries. The ‘Peninsula’ has long been a playground for the people of Melbourne, yet Red Hill remains a peaceful rural community. It is in this idyllic environment, Eldridge Estate consistently produces premium quality wines with a true sense of place. It’s a beautiful setting, but it’s also near perfect to make our single vineyard wines. We have 3 hectares (8 acres) under vines, all with superb views of the valley and hills behind the vineyard and winery. The vineyard has an altitude of 225 metres at a Latitude 38 22′ 16″ and Longitude 145 1′ 11″ . So in altitude and climate, the site is similar to Burgundy in France. The soil is a red clay volcanic loam on a north facing slope that drops 45 metres from the top, near Arthurs Seat Road, to the spring-fed dam at the bottom of row 1 (160 metres long). It is protected from harsh winds by natural land forms which result in a long, cool, ripening period. The soils are basaltic loam from the Tertiary period, ie about 30 Million years before present time. This means that the combination of ancient landforms and soil have combined to produce a truly unique set of conditions that encourage the vines to grow deep roots in search of water and nutrients. The vines have been trained into what is known as the Vertical Shoot Position system of canopy management to provide the best possible flavour development at our unique site.

The winery is managed by Michael & Hollie Aylward whose passion originated over a decade ago with a part-time job at the family’s previous winery Kooyong. Ocean Eight has evolved into the couple’s full-time obsession. Whilst the first crops ripened on the vine, to further cultivate their viticultural experience, the Aylward’s embarked on several tours of the renowned vineyards and cellars of the Burgundy region in France. These trips played an important factor in the style of wines now produced at Ocean Eight. This passion-driven endeavour to bring the highest quality wine to the Mornington Peninsula saw Michael win the sought-after Australian “Young Gun of Wine” award in 2011. The Wines When defining what identifies the Ocean Eight wines, Mike Aylward always returns to two ideas he has worked on since the first release wine; how well are they going to match with food and will they best represent the climate and grape growing conditions of the Mornington Peninsula. Therefore the Ocean Eight wines are lean, bright & tight with acid at the finish. These characters help the wines pair with food and age incredibly well. It is no coincidence that these characters are also intrinsic to the cool, maritime conditions of Mornington Peninsula vineyards, where the Aylward’s chose to grow grapes and make wines over 20 years ago.

Moorooduc Estate offers some of the finest of Mornington Peninsula wines and hand crafted produce available for tasting and purchase. The McIntyre family are a hard working talented clan. Dr Richard McIntyre (surgeon) and superlative winemaker is ably assisted by daughter, Katie Mac MW (of 300 MWs currently in the world, Kate is the third Australian woman). They were amongst the first to plant in the Mornington Peninsula in 1982. On their 12-acre vineyard they specialize in simple natural winemaking, working with small batches; everything has a natural yeast ferment and is lovingly hand-crafted, using low impact wine making, with an attention to detail, that produces beautiful wines with balance and finesse. The fruit comes from four vineyards in the Moorooduc sub region, his own, the McIntyre vineyard, the leased Garden vineyard (as featured in Monty Don’s Around the World in 80 Gardens) & neighboring Robinson vineyard.

At Prancing Horse Estate, land stewardship is the foundation of our endeavours. We are committed to a sustainable agricultural path and in the vineyard, meticulous canopy management leads to low yields and optimum fruit quality. Our two blocks first planted in Red Hill South in 1985 are located on the same moderate slope, one running northeast and the other facing west. They provide the ideal environment to produce small parcels of fruit that truly express their individual terroir. Our property is surrounded by bush and pasture and oversees Western Port Bay and Bass Strait. In the 1ER Cru and Grand Cru vineyards of France, our fine wine obsession led to partnerships with leading exponents of biodynamic winemaking, Pascal Marchand in Burgundy and Patrick Piuze in Chablis. We aim to produce all our wines to this standard while preserving the integrity of the environment in everything we do. We believe that terroir is implicit in the consistent style differences between ours and adjacent vineyards, the differences in aroma, flavour and most importantly, the structure of our wines. The horse is the inspiration behind our venture into the wine industry highlighting our strong connection and admiration for the animal and its long association with biodynamic viticulture. The Prancing Horse also embraces the qualities we seek to capture in our wines where a gentle approach in the vineyard and winery has led to wines of elegance, complexity, excitement, and power. In applying organic and biodynamic practices we seek to maximise the flavour potential and fruit balance in our vineyards. Our horses, Licorice, Duchess and Molly have played a significant role in the vineyard cultivation and management. Today our herd of sheep continue this work. They are important contributors to our composting approach to nurture the soil and recreate the living ecosystem essential to providing quality wines. Located within the vineyard is the "Wild One" by preeminent Australian sculptor, artist Deborah Halpern. Wild One is depicted on every bottle of Prancing Horse wine.

This is a great winery experience which has been awarded Best Winery Tourism Destination by Gourmet Traveller magazine and given a 5-star rating by Australian wine critic and vigneron James Halliday. There are 30 permanent sculptures sensitively sited throughout the Montalto grounds, from monumental works in open spaces to more intimate pieces begging to be discovered amongst the wetlands and vines. The grounds at Montalto are open daily between 11am – 5pm. Please allow one hour to enjoy the sculptures throughout the property.

A paradigm shift for Ruth and George Mihaly saw us surrender our established careers in food for Ruth and medical research for George to viticulture and winemaking respectively. We have always been passionate about food and wine and our obsessive pursuit of quality and commitment to ecologically responsible practices led us to establish our ideal and environmentally sustainable vineyard/home site on the Mornington Peninsula. The overriding focus is on achieving balanced healthy vines producing carefully selected, exceptional & low yielding fruit. We therefore have only estate grown wines - showing elegance and intensity – but always a purity of varietal expression for each wine - Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir & Shiraz….. The journey continues…. The Vineyard It has often been said, great wine is made in the vineyard – and this is why we believe that our terroir is so vitally important to our wines character. We have just over 10 acres of north facing gently sloping vineyard. The vineyard has been established with a very low density of vines (average only 500 vines per acre) grafted onto vigour limiting, salinity and phylloxera resistant rootstock. The trellis runs north south and vines have been trained to a VSP approach with a keen eye on ensuring a balanced vine. We are committed to using only estate grown grapes for on site production of pinot noir, shiraz , pinot gris and riesling. The philosophy of our wine making is to guide the wine with minimal intervention through the vinification process – and this is how we believe that we can maximize the varietal character from our terroir, for each of our wines. Our fruit is picked by loving hands, with vintage being a time for celebration.

Audrey Wilkinson Vineyard and Cellar Door is one of the oldest wineries in the Hunter Valley wine region. The 270-acre vineyard is named after one of Australia’s early wine pioneers.
